Privacy is at the core of Typr. Your meeting data stays on your device, always.
How Typr Works
Local Processing (Default)
Everything happens on your device:
- Audio Recording: Stored only on your computer
- Transcription: Processed locally using on-device AI
- Summaries: Generated locally, never sent to servers
- AI Chat: Runs entirely on your device
Cloud Models (Optional)
For improved transcription accuracy, you can optionally use cloud models:
- ✅ Zero retention policy: Audio deleted immediately after processing
- ✅ No training: Your data is never used to train AI models
- ✅ Encrypted in transit: All data sent over secure connections
- ✅ You control it: Enable/disable in Settings anytime
Local processing keeps everything private. Cloud models offer better accuracy with zero data retention. You decide what works for you.
What We DON'T Do
- ❌ Store your meetings on our servers
- ❌ Train AI models on your data
- ❌ Track meeting content or participants
- ❌ Share data with third parties
- ❌ Require account creation for core features
What We DO Collect
Minimal, anonymous data only:
- ✅ Anonymous usage stats: App launches, feature usage (no content)
- ✅ Crash reports: Technical diagnostics (no meeting data)
- ✅ License validation: For Pro subscriptions only
Opt out anytime in Settings → Privacy.
Your Data Location
All meeting data is stored locally on your Mac:
- Location:
~/Library/Application Support/Typr - Encryption: AES-256 encryption at rest
- Backups: Included in your system backups
- Deletion: Delete in app or uninstall + delete folder

Typr's privacy-first approach helps with:

FAQ
Can Typr access my meetings?
No. Local processing means we have no access. Even with optional cloud models, audio is deleted immediately after processing with zero retention.
What if I lose my computer?
Your data is local. We recommend:
- Regular system backups
- Export important meetings
- Enable FileVault encryption
Can I sync across devices?
Not yet. We're exploring end-to-end encrypted sync that maintains privacy.
