General​

What is Typr?​

Typr is a privacy-first AI meeting notes app. Everything processes on your device - your meeting data never leaves your computer.

How is Typr different from Otter.ai or Fireflies?​

  • Typr: Processes locally on your device, works offline, no bots
  • Cloud services: Upload audio to servers, use data for AI training, require bots

Do I need internet to use Typr?​

No. After initial setup, Typr works completely offline. Internet only needed for:

  • Initial AI model download (one-time)
  • App updates (optional)
  • Cloud models (optional, for better accuracy)

Features​

Can Typr transcribe in multiple languages?​

Currently English only. More languages coming based on user demand.

How accurate is the transcription?​

95%+ accuracy in good audio conditions. Accuracy depends on audio quality, microphone, speaker clarity, and background noise.

Can I edit transcripts?​

Yes! Edit transcripts directly in the app. Changes save locally.

Does Typr work with video calls?​

Yes! Typr records Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, in-person meetings, and any audio on your Mac.

Can I export my notes?​

Yes. Export formats: PDF, Word (.docx), Markdown (.md), and Plain text (.txt).

Privacy & Security​

Is my data really private?​

Yes. Everything processes locally. We can't access your meetings.

Optional cloud models use zero data retention - audio deleted immediately after processing.

Can others see I'm recording?​

No bot joins meetings, so no recording indicator. However, always inform participants (often legally required).

Where are my recordings stored?​

Locally on your Mac at ~/Library/Application Support/Typr, encrypted with AES-256.

What if I lose my computer?​

Data is local only. We recommend regular system backups, exporting important meetings, and enabling FileVault encryption.

What are the system requirements?​

  • macOS: 11 (Big Sur) or later
  • RAM: 4GB minimum, 8GB recommended
  • Storage: 2GB for app + models
  • Processor: Intel or Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3)

Does Typr work on Windows or Linux?​

Not yet. macOS only. Windows and Linux support on our roadmap.

How much disk space do recordings use?​

Audio: ~1MB per minute (~60MB for 1 hour). Transcripts are negligible. AI models: 1-1.5GB (one-time).
