Installation & Setup

This guide will walk you through installing and setting up Typr on your computer.

Download Typr

Visit typrapp.com and click the download button to get Typr for macOS.

For macOS

  1. Download the .dmg file
  2. Open the downloaded file
  3. Drag Typr to your Applications folder
  4. Launch Typr from Applications
Apple Silicon Support

Typr is fully optimized for both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, with native support for M1, M2, and M3 chips for better performance.

macOS Only

Typr currently supports macOS only. Windows and Linux support is on our roadmap based on user demand.

First Launch

When you first open Typr, the app will:

  1. Download AI Models: Typr downloads the necessary AI models for local transcription (approximately 1-1.5GB)
  2. Request Permissions: Grant microphone access to record meetings
  3. Quick Tutorial: Optional walkthrough of key features
First-Time Setup

The initial model download requires an internet connection and may take 5-10 minutes depending on your connection speed. This is a one-time process.

Granting Permissions

Typr requires the following macOS permissions:

  • Microphone Access: Required for recording meetings
  • Screen Recording (macOS 13+): For system audio capture
  • Accessibility: Optional, for enhanced audio routing

How to Grant Permissions

  1. Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS)
  2. Go to Privacy & Security
  3. Select Microphone and enable Typr
  4. Select Screen Recording and enable Typr (if prompted)
  5. Restart Typr if needed
First Launch

macOS will automatically prompt you for these permissions on first launch. Just click "Allow" when asked.

Verifying Installation

To verify Typr is installed correctly:

  1. Open Typr
  2. Click the settings icon (gear)
  3. Check that AI models show as "Downloaded"
  4. Test your microphone in the Audio Settings

Troubleshooting Installation

Models Not Downloading

If AI models fail to download:

  • Check your internet connection
  • Disable VPN temporarily
  • Try restarting the app
  • Contact support if the issue persists

App Won't Launch

If Typr won't open:

  • macOS: Right-click the app, select "Open" (first time only)
  • Windows: Run as Administrator
  • Check system requirements are met
  • Reinstall the app

Microphone Not Working

If microphone isn't detected:

  • Check system permissions (see above)
  • Verify microphone works in other apps
  • Try a different microphone
  • Restart your computer
